Different Lives
No needed
times, Kian was having a good relation with Miss Watson. And how strange they
could get closer each other. Jane taught him everything. She educated him to be
an educated girl. She prepared him to be a great lady. The mostly she taught
him the attitude and the etiquette for being a lady. How he spoke, he walked,
he sat, and he talked, even how he behaved as a little lady. And Kian learnt
that fast and very well. He took them well.
Miss Watson got impressed herself, not mention how Kian took the piano
lesson very well with Byron. She believed Kian would be one great lady.
By months
passed, Kian slowly turned to such a nice little lady. The old Kian boy slowly
disappeared and changed to Adeline. Everyone had called him Adeline, and he had
accepted it. He was now changed to be an
adorable beautiful little lady. No one would think it was a boy inside. Kian
was prepared to be a true lady, and he quite enjoyed it. The love he had from this lovely family, a
great servant- how they served him well without seeing him as an impostor, and
Shane who was always there for him. He was so grateful with this blessed,
having this family. And Byron, he was getting closer with Kian, and they were
looked like siblings now. Byron loved and cared Kian so much, and had seen him
as his little sister who needs love and protection. But yet, there was still
pain inside. He lost Mark. He wondered could he meet Mark again.
*
Mark’s life was
not different with Kian’s. He was more than fine. He was as happy as Kian. He
lived in the greatest parents he ever dreamt. Maybe not a rich family but a
full of love and warm family. His new parents were only a peasant and didn’t
have a great big manor. They only had a little warm house with the big farm
behind. Mark was a farm boy now. His
daily activity was going to school and helping his father on the field. And he
loved it! He was also a church boy, and joined the choir as he was deadly in
love to sing. He was happy. And the other thing which made Mark happy was now
he was waiting his baby brother. Yes, Mrs. Feehily was having a child, after
ten years waiting. And they promised this new baby wouldn’t change how they
felt for Mark. Mark still their first son and would always love him. And Mark
believed that. Mark could never ask more
than this. This was had much than he prayed everyday at St. Peter except losing
Kian.

Kian sighed
still in disbelieve, looking his look from the mirror His sweet gown and his
lovely braid almost fool his eyes. He couldn’t see himself as a boy. He was a
girl now. How fate had change his life, since Lord McFadden took him to this
house and adopted him to be Adeline, and being separated to Mark. He missed
Mark so much. This kindness family could change how he felt for Mark. Shane
couldn’t replace Mark, even he had been like Mark. Kian still needed Mark; the
real Mark. He needed to see him. Could he meet him again?
Suddenly he remembered the letter. Mark’s letter, the one letter
Mark had ever written for Kian. He remembered, Mark promised would come back
for him, and took him with him, so they could live together as a one family.
When would he come? In one year. When that one year?
“Shane…?
“Yes, Miss?”
“Do you remember when
I first time came here?”
Shane stunned. “I beg you pardon, Miss?” not really understand
where the question lead to.
“Had I been one year
here?”
Shane went to think.
“Yes, I believe so, Miss.”
“One year, it had one
year,” Kian suddenly dropped into tears, shocking Shane.
“Miss, what is it?” he
hated seeing his missy crying or even sad. He handed her handkerchief.
Kian took it and wiped his tears.
“Miss, something
bothering you?” suddenly he scared someone had hurt his missy. “Miss Adeline?” he felt the nervous now.
“Mark…,” he sobbed.
Shane stunned. “Mark?” But he then remembered. Mark, Kian’s best
friend and how much he meant for Kian.
“Yes…, Mark…?” Shane
still waited his missy’s next word.
“He will come, Shane.
He will come from Ireland. He promised me would come back in one year for me.
He will take me with him if I haven’t adopted.”
“But you have
adopted.”
“Yes, Shane, I have.”
Shane sighed see the point. “Is that what make you sad, miss?”
he asked carefully.
Kian nodded sadly. “We would never be together Shane.”
Shane bit his lips.
“Maybe you couldn’t be
together, but you still can meet him if you wish to,” Shane offered carefully,
he knew how his missy missed the lad so much. The lad he never knew.
Kian looked Shane, but shook his head. “I still can’t, Shane.”
Shane went thinking, not understand the words.
“Look at me now,
Shane. I’m not even Kian!” so clear there’s heart breaking but matter of fact.
Shane sighed and cursed himself for such a fool and forgot like
this.
“I’m Adeline, Shane,
I’m dressed up, with braid. I can’t meet him, not in this dress. He wouldn’t
recognize me.”
Shane couldn’t say anything. He felt so sorry again.
“I missed him so much,
Shane, I want to meet him,” the sound was so desperate. “Can I come back as
boy?” with pleading eyes.
Shane couldn’t even surprise with the words. He knew it would
come out someday. But he knew better the answer. As Kian too.
“Even for one day?” it
was like a puppy eyes.
Shane gave the sorry eyes. “Forgive, me, Miss,” even how wanted
he granted it.
“Stop it, Shane, I’m
not even a girl!” he snapped in anger, forgotten he was a girl now, a lady to
be.
Again, Shane didn’t look surprise with Kian’s reaction. He knew
this would come out, Shane didn’t replayed back. He looked at him with sympathy
eyes. And Kian knew that.
“Forgive me, Shane,”
Shane just took a bow. And let the missy crying, dealing with
his heart and emotion as Kian didn’t say any words again. He knew the boy’s
feeling. He had suffered enough, imprisoned on a girl dress. Too cruel for a 12
years boy.
“No, Shane, I don’t
think Mark will come back,” Kian suddenly spoke, still in sobbed. “He was just
saying it. He was always lies. He lied just to comfort me. He had his family
now, he’s happy now, I don’t think he would remember me, right Shane?”
Shane still didn’t know what to say.
“No, he wouldn’t come
…” but the voice cracked again.
Shane took his missy’s hand, and Kian burst into Shane and cried
again. Shane knew how wanted Kian for Mark to come. He knew the boy’s feeling.
But he hoped Kian was right.
