Chapter 1  -  Need Love

London- St. Peter - Orphan House for Boys – Year 1800

“Bye Neil…!!! We’ll gonna miss you!!” children waved their hands through the windows watching their friend was taken with his new parents, having the family they always dreamt about.

They kept waving and didn’t lose their eyes from the cart till they disappeared from their sight. Some of them had the tears on the cheeks, wishing it was him who was taken. And they would be always praying for their adoption. But that would be an exception for Mark and Kian.

“Right, Kian, he’s leaving, now, having new parents,” Mark sighed with smile and turning his back from the window.

“Does he have family too?” Kian asked with his innocent face,

    “Yup.”

“What it is like having parents, Mark?” Kian always wondered.

“I don’t know, Kian, I never have one. We never have one,” still smiling, like that wasn’t a big matter for him.

“Do you wish it?” Kian looked with his cute blue eyes to the taller boy.

    “What?”

    “Parents.”

Mark had to smile. He ruffled the blond hair of his friend; they were soft and such like a gold. “Yeah,” he couldn’t lie. “We wish it, Kian, every kid who lives in this house wish for it.”

“I’m not,” a very simple answer from Kian.

    “Why not?”

    “Because I have you, Mark.”

Mark had to smile again. He pulled the smaller boy onto his arms, “Yeah, you have me, Kian.”

“I don’t need anybody as long as I have you.”

“Thank you, Kian. But it would be nice if we have family. Parents, Kian, mother and father.”

Kian had to nod slightly.

    “Why they left us, Mark?”

    “Who?”

    “Our parents.”

Mark had to sigh, “I don’t know, Kian. But my mother died having me out.”

    “And your father?”

“No body knows who my father is.”

    “He left you?”

“Yeah, he left, probably he didn’t know I’m exist.”

“They left me on the gate still on the box,” Kian pouted his lips, felt the heart breaking. “Did they hate me?”

“No, they didn’t, Kian, they wouldn’t hate you.”

Kian bit his lips. He hugged Mark and held him tight,

“Promise me, Mark, you would never leave me, we will be together forever.”

Mark went silent with the hug, he felt the scared of being left,

“I promise, Kian, I would never leave you, we will be together, forever. Even if there a parent wants to adopt me, they had to adopt you too, we would never be apart.”

Kian winded his eyes, “promise?”

    “Promise,” Mark nodded with smile.

Kian smiled with tightens his hug, till Mark couldn’t breath.

“Kian! Move from that windows, love, it’s getting cold now!” a warm shout came from Sister Anne, “and you haven’t take your medicine.”

“You haven’t taken your medicine, Kian?”Mark made an angry voice,

“Well, I’m not sick, Mark,” Kian pouted his lips.

“Yes, you are, Kian, you need it for your lung.”

“I’m fine! I just had pneumonia once!”

“Yeah, once which almost killed you, Kian.”

Kian bit his lips.

“Mark! Take Kian from that window, now!!!” Sister Anne’s shout was heard again.

“Yes, Sister Anne! Come on, Kian, I have to safe you from this window,” Mark said with chuckle, made Kian smiled.

“Mark, will you sing for me again?” as he moved away from the window.

“What do you want me to sing?”

    “Anything, I like your singing.”

“Thank you,” Mark with smiled. Well, he loved to sing for Kian. Anything for Kian.

Kian had been a baby for that house. Even he’s not the youngest; they treated him like a baby. Kian was not born well, he had problem with his lungs and sometimes hardly breathing. He had pneumonia once, which made him even weak. And Mark was always there for Kian. He always put himself like Kian’s big brother; even Mark was a year younger than Kian. He was there when Kian had his pneumonia. He watched when Kian struggled for his life, fought for breathing. He had almost lost Kian that night, but Kian was survived, and that made Mark promised himself for not leaving Kian and always protect him in every ways. All sisters at St. Peter had known and let them together, as they believed Mark would take care of Kian. Sometimes there some lads who picked Kian up for being weak, but Mark was always there for Kian, making him safe and made sure no one hurt him, and that made Kian a bit depended on Mark.

Beside Kian’s health problem, there’s another reason why Kian such a baby for them. Kian had a beautiful face, too beautiful for a boy. He had such a pretty face and soft skin like a girl with thin body and shape, just like a girl. He looked like an 8 years boy than an 11 years boy. It was so hard for not loving him. And that made Mark wondered why there’s no parents want to adopt him. But that would be fine; that meant he could be with Kian forever.

On visit day.

There were couples came to St. Peter, and children were making a little show with their talents for an impressed. Started with a choir with their beautiful boys, and then showed their own talented. Some were singing and some playing music. For Mark, singing had been his life. He had a beautiful voice and such a talented singer for 10 years boy. Unfortunately for Kian, with his health problem he was not allowed to take any practice, neither for singing or playing music, even he had a little interested with a piano. And for the show, sometimes Mark did lost tunes by purposed, and did not make any good impression on the guest, and that would mean no adoption for him. But this time, Mark was singing well, he showed all talent his had which never mean to impress anyone. He just wants to impress Kian, which always like his singing. He only hoped that would not make him being taken away.

“Who do you think will be taken away this time?” Kian wondered as he sat with Mark on one corridor after the performance, still in their nicest St. Peter uniform.

“I don’t know, it could be Roan, or it could be you!” Mark smiled.

“No, it couldn’t be me, Mark.”

    “Why not?”

“I didn’t do anything, Mark. I did not make any performance. I can’t sing, I can’t play music. I’m not like you. Nobody would like me.”

“But you are cute, Kian. You are so beautiful,” Mark had to smile.

“Being cute wouldn’t impress anything. And beautiful, they are looking for a boy not a girl, Mark! They wouldn’t pick me if I’m having this girly face. And I’m eleven now, no body would take me. I hate it!” Kian even pouted his lips made him even cute.

Mark had to laugh and couldn’t hold for not hugging him tight.

“Hello, there?” a warm women voice greeted them made them two whipped their head up to find a beautiful woman.

They gave their best smiles.

“Are you who sang at the performance, son?” that question was for Mark.

    “Yes, I am, Ma’am.”

“You have a beautiful voice, my child, and you can sing well. What’s your name, love?”

“Mark, Ma’am!” he said it with proudly.

“Ah, Mark, what a cute name,” she smiled. “And how old are you?”

    “Ten, Ma’am.”

That lady was only smile. He looked to Mark’s side.

“And who’s this little cute lad?”

Kian’s heart pounded.

“It’s Kian, Ma’am. He’s 11,” Mark introduced Kian with happy face. “And he smelled nice!”

She was a bit surprised but then laughed.

“Really? Then let me kiss you,” she kissed Kian’s cheek gently, then smiled, “Yes, you are right, young man, your friend smelled nice.”

Mark smiled happily.

“I’m not going, Ma’am,” a shocking stern words came for Kian. “Nor Mark.”

Both Mark and the Lady were shocked.

“Kian!” Mark hissed him with a stern look.

The Lady had to sigh.

“Forgive him, Ma’am,” Mark made an excuse for Kian.

“It’s alright, my child,” she smiled to Mark, and then turned to Kian. “So, you’re not going, little lad?”

Kian shook his head with eyes straight to the lady.

The lady still smile, “That’s alright, love. I’m not going anywhere too. Here’s for you two,” she handed two chocolate bars for Kian and Mark.

They took it and said thank you.

“Well, nice to see you two young lads,” she smiled warmly, like a mother they always dream.

    “Thank you for coming, Ma’am.”

The lady just nodded and left them.

“Kian, why did you say that?” Mark with stern look and angry voice.

    “So we couldn’t be separated!”

Mark bit his lips.

“So you think, she interested on one of us?”

“That obviously, Mark. She likes you!”

“No, she likes you, Kian. You see the way she called you?”

Kian bit his lips, then nodded.

“I could sense she will take you,” Mark with no doubt.

Kian went silent.

“You’re gonna have parents, Kian, and  family.”

Kian was still thinking, but then burst to Mark’s arms.

“I don’t wanna go, Mark, I’m not leaving you.”

Marl felt the emotion, “That would be fine, Kian, nothing to worry, we wouldn’t be…”

“Na…na…na…!” Kian made a sound to stop Mark’s speaking with closing his ears..

“Alright, alright, we won’t talk about it!” he tightened the hug. “Thank you, Kian. Love you so much.”

    “Love you too, Mark.”

Mark sighed in gladness. Being an orphan hadn’t a matter for him as long as he had Kian. Kian was his life. He would do anything for Kian, even he had to separate for Kian having a new family and parents.
