Chapter 9
Miracle
Louis came to
the room and saw Evelyn still in the bed fell to sleep hugging the boy. The
room was silent as night came down and no body was here except Emma who was
tending something. Father Simon and Sister Anne had gone home hours ago. But
then he realized why the room was so quiet. The harsh sound of Kian fighting
for breath, which had been present since the beginning was gone. He looked at
the boy, he was pale, no longer flushed with fever and very still. He laid his
hand on his forehead, he was cool and he saw the smallest movement of his body,
heard the quietest sigh.
He numb at first, but then sighed in full of gladness. The fever
had at last broken, he was sleeping normally, breathing easy.
“Thank you lord, thank
you! Emma, the fever had broken,” with his lower voice.
“Sir?” she rushed to
the bed and touched the boy forehead, “Yes, it is, Sir,” she had to smile in
gladness. She looked to the peacefully little boy slept on milady arms reminded
her something, but somehow she didn’t mind at all. “She kept him alive, Sir.”
“Yes, she is,” with a
smile. He looked to them, and he didn’t want to lose them.
“Emma…”
“Yes, Sir…”
“Come,” he took her
out for some words.
….
Emma held her breath in shocking as she heard what her master
told her.
“Sir, are you sure
wants to do that?”
“Yes.”
“But he is a boy, not
a girl.”
“I know, but we could
make him.”
Emma bit her lips, never thought his Master would have a thought
like that.
“This is for her, Emma,
obviously this boy made her live again.”
“But we would live in
a lie, and everyone knows Miss Adeline had died”
“I know, but not every
one, Emma, only our family. And I have considered everything.”
“But, Sir, what about
Master Byron? What would he say?”
“I’ll talk about it,
but I knew he would accept as long as for his mother.”
Emma was still not sure what the plan.
“Please, Emma…”
She looked to his pleading Master. Master never plead like this
before, not if wasn’t for his beloved wife.
“Yes, of course, Sir,
I’ll do with my heart.”
“Thank you, Emma, I
knew I count on you.”

Byron was on the playing room, playing
chess with Shane. This was the best way to took over their attention from the
boy. But they knew they couldn’t. Since that little boy came to this house and
hadn’t come around till this day, it had changed them. They didn’t know bout
the boy, except he was from St. Peter Orphan House; an orphan and sick. But
they felt something about him.
“Do you think he’s gonna
die, Shane?” Byron suddenly asked in worried as he couldn’t think for the next
move. Shane had beaten him once and he believed he would beat him again. Shane
was very good at this game. Byron liked the lad. He was two years older than
him and had like a family for him, even he was not. Shane was Emma’s nephew and
rose by her from his baby for his parents couldn’t afford him. He was the
youngest from seven. Too many mouths to feed as his parents were only a poor
peasant. Now he was a friend of his young master and his missy, companying
them, especially Adeline. He was always beside her, and Adeline couldn’t far
from Shane.
“I don’t know, Sir,
but he is very sick,” his eyes not leaving his pawn.
Byron sighed. “I don’t want him die, Shane, we need him.”
Shane looked up, tried to believe his ears.
“For mother,” within
looked to Shane’s eyes.
Shane could read those eyes.
“No, you couldn’t,
Sir…”
But he nodded. “Could you?”
Shane bit his lips. Honestly he couldn’t answer that. Adeline
was his beloved little missy, and he was always with her, tending her every
needs and look over her. And when she died, no one could replace her place. No
one.
“Forgive me, Sir,”
Shane looked down to his pawns for avoiding his youngsir eyes.
Byron sighed. “Forgive me too, Shane.” He knew how Shane felt
for his dead sister, and he couldn't make him to replace her. Neither him.
Knok…knok…
They both looked up whose coming.
“Father…?”
“Sir,” Shane rose up
from his sit.
“I knew I would found
you two here.” Lord McFadden looked to the boys who played chess.
“Who’s won?” with a
smile.
“Him like usual,”
Byron answered with annoyed voice.
“Good one, Shane,”
Lord McFadden commented the lad.
Shane just nodded politely with saying thank you.
“Any news from the
little lad?” somehow Byron knew his father came from something.
Lord McFadden sighed with relieve, “Yes, the fever had break
down and now he’s sleeping peacefully. He has a chance to live.”
They both sighed in relieve. “For Lord Heaven, thank you.”
Lord McFadden smiled with the reaction.
“He sleep peacefully
in your mother’s arms,” he added with a bit a nervous.
“I know.”
“You knew?” Lord
McFadden a bit surprised.
Byron looked to Shane then to his father.
“They have bound each
other,” with no doubt.
Lord McFadden bit his lips.
“You can’t separated
them, father,” Bryon had to say it.
Lord McFadden even surprised. He looked to Shane then to his
son.
“Son, so you think…?”
“You brought him here,
father, and that made something. She thought he is Adeline. He makes mother
live again. And I can’t see that stop. I want her live again, father.”
Lord McFadden swallowed, never thought his 13 years boy would
think that too. But he knew it was for his mother.
“So, you don’t mind if
he ….” he didn’t finish the words.
Byron shook his head.
“And become…?”
He nodded.
“Can we, father?”
Lord McFadden sighed. He wouldn’t answer it before asked this
other lad too. He turned to Shane.
“And Shane, what about
you?”
Shane swallowed hard. He looked to his master eye in nervous,
and the blond yoursir gave the eyes too.
He nodded, “Yes, of course, Milord,” he could only answer that.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, Sir,” with no
hesitation.
Lord McFadden sighed in full relieveness.
“Alright, we’ll
arrange it. Thank you very much, boys, you didn’t knew how this made everything
easier.”
Byron just smiled.
“Can we see him?”
“No, it’s better to
let him rest. It had been a long week for him.”
Byron just nodded.
Lord McFadden smile, and excused from his son’s chamber.
As his father left, Byron turned to Shane and that face still
not sure. And he looked to him.
“I’ll try my best,
Sir.”
Byron just smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Shane.’ He knew it
wouldn’t easy for him.
